Quote for the Week:
"By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But if any one has the world's goods and see his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in deed and truth."
--I John 3:16-18
Link of the Week:
Bishop Hanson on Immigration Reform
An open letter by the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on immigration reform. It is one in a long line of statements where church leaders thoughtfully call us to consider our part in the larger society as people of faith.
Going Deeper:
A Journey into Pentecost -
A presentation will be given by Pastor Rick Kremer on
Thursday July 29th at 7:00 p.m.
in Luther Hall at St. John's Lutheran Church
884 Newfield Avenue in Stamford.
Pastor Kremer will speak to the core issues associated with the immigration crisis and the ways in which people of faith are and can be engaged in this very difficult and complex subject. Pastor Kremer serves as associate Pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Providence, Rhode Island. Gloria Dei is a multi-cultural church that serves a multi-cultural community and more than twenty different countries are represented in the congregation. The church serves many new immigrants, including some without papers. Pastor Kremer has served as Director of Public Policy for the New England Synod of the ELCA for the past year. Recently, he and four other pastors undertook a spontaneous and Spirit-led journey to Arizona to better understand the immigration situation there and to witness developments at the borders and in the courts. All are welcome to attend this informative presentation.

A Prayer attributed to St. Francis
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us show love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
