St. Francis Church is deeply committed to Outreach – both in the distribution of our resources and in the involvement of our people.
Our Grants Program distributes more than $30,000 per year to organizations that help the most vulnerable members of society. Most of this is distributed locally, but special needs in other parts of the United States and around the world are funded as well.
Midnight Run-Friday May 8
St. Francis and St. John’s Lutheran Church will collaborate again on a Midnight Run on Friday, May 8. We will gather at the Church at 7:00 PM to prepare the bag lunches, sort the clothes, prepare the hygiene bags, and load the truck. Those making the “Run” into New York City will leave around 9:00 PM and return around 2:00 AM. The Midnight Run provides food, clothing, and hospitality to those living on the streets in New York City. We will collect clothing and hygiene items during the month of May. You can drop them off at the Church or at the Meeting Room.
We will collect clothing and toiletries over the next few weeks. We also need the following items for the bag lunches:
- 50 juice boxes
- 100 hot beverage cups
- Mustard for Sandwiches
- 50 bags of crackers/chips
- Lettuce (3 heads of iceberg lettuce)
- 50 packages of cookies/brownies/bars
- Cheese for 20 sandwiches
- Peanut Butter & Jelly for 25 Sandwiches
- Roast Beef for 20 Sandwiches
- Turkey for 25 sandwiches
- Whole grain, oat bran, whole wheat bread-3 people bringing 3 loaves
Please let Pastor Mark (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if you would like to make the “Run” into New York City. Many thanks!
Load-a-Truck Sunday – June 7, 2015
St. John’s Lutheran Church has challenged other churches in Stamford to collect as much food as possible for the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. Please bring in a grocery bag of food on Sunday, June 7. We will bring it to the Food Bank that day. Each church will weigh their collection, for a little friendly competition. Let’s try and top the other parishes!!
The Outreach Committee coordinates many hands-on projects as well, such as the twice a year Midnight Run into New York city to distribute food, clothing and toiletries to the homeless, meal preparation at the Shelter for the Homeless, and preparation of food boxes at Christmastime through Person-to-Person’s Dove Box Program, and regular food drives for the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County
