As a member of the Interfaith Social Ministry Collaborative, St. Francis joined local churches and synagogues this summer to collect school supplies and funds for backpacks. On August 22, Nancy Bisset, Patricia Lydon and three other representatives of the Collaborative, gathered at Building One Community to fill and then distribute the backpacks to the children.
We packed a total of 53 backpacks: 48 that we purchased plus five that had been donated. We also sorted the additional supplies we received, so B1C had about two dozen more boxes of supplies to distribute as needed. Forty-five backpacks were allocated for the elementary school students who attend B1C’s after-school program and five-week summer camp. The rest will go to siblings and other clients.
St. Francis collected enough school supplies to fill 25 backpacks, plus $280 to support the after school program during the fall! It was a delight to see the smiles on the faces of the children and their parents. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this very successful effort!
